Bill Cheney Named Next CUNA CEO (Monitor: May 10, 2010)
William “Bill” Cheney, current president/CEO of the California/Nevada Credit Union Leagues, has been named the next president/CEO of CUNA following the 12-year tenure of Dan Mica. After reviewing more than 100 highly qualified candidates, a CUNA executive search committee recommended Cheney and CUNA's board unanimously approved the choice.
"Bill Cheney will provide our national credit union movement with strong and effective leadership at a time when both challenges and opportunities abound," said MCUL President/CEO David Adams. "His experience as an executive at a larger credit union and as CEO of the California and Nevada Leagues prepare him very well for this important leadership post. On a personal level, I know Bill to be a principle-centered leader and a good listener. He is bright and experienced to take on this role at CUNA."
Cheney, who has been the president of the California/Nevada Leagues since 2006, will take over on July 5 after a transition period during which he will be working with Mica to ensure a seamless transfer.
