Just File It! Program Boasts Big Numbers (Monitor: May 3, 2010)
During the 2009 tax season, the Just File It! free tax preparation service saw a big increase in the number of tax filers and amount of tax credits and refunds returned to Michigan credit union members. One hundred twenty-five Michigan credit unions provided more than $13,660,000.00 in refunds and credits to nearly 5,000 individuals. This year’s numbers toppled last year’s refund and credit totals by more than $1 million.
When adding refund and credit totals from credit union participants with non-credit union partners, Just File It! returned a record-breaking $21,785,042.00 to Michigan residents.
The MCUL began promoting Just File It! during the 2006 tax season by artnering with the Legal Aid Society of Orange County, the nonprofit organization who developed and maintained the online tax filing system called I-Can E-file. Just file it! provides free online tax preparation and ensures that CU members will have access to important tax credits, like the State and Federal Earned Income Tax Credits, that sometimes go overlooked.
