Time to Prepare Maxwell, Herring, Desjardins Award Entries (Monitor: April 26, 2010)
Registration is now open for the 2010 Dora Maxwell, Louise Herring and Alphonse Desjardins awards. Award descriptions, downloadable entry forms, entry guidelines and samples are available on the MCUL Web site. Entries must be submitted to the MCUL by Aug. 13.
First place winners at the state level advance to the national competition facilitated by CUNA. Last year, four Michigan credit unions took first- or second-place honors at the national level.
The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Program was established to recognize and encourage credit union and chapter involvement in community projects and activities. The Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action recognizes credit unions for their practical applications of the "People Helping People" philosophy in serving their members. The Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of youth financial literacy. It considers all activities supporting the personal finance education of young members and non-members, including face-to-face teaching, publicity, lobbying for curriculum requirements, and teacher and volunteer training.
Questions on the awards and submissions may be directed to MCUL Director of Public Affairs Glenn Ray at Glenn.Ray@mcul.org or ext. 246, or Kathryn Hall at kathryn.hall@mcul.org or ext. 470.
