Filene Completes Foreclosure Study; Presents Findings (Monitor: February 16, 2009)
The Filene Research Institute has completed their study entitled “Keeping People in Their Homes,” which surveys the depth of the foreclosure crisis in Michigan and offers public and private sector recommendations for improving the state's housing situation. The policy recommendations from the Michigan Credit Union Foundation-commissioned study were presented to the State Senate Banking Committee the morning of Feb. 11 by Executive Director and CEO of the Filene Research Institute Mark Meyer; Chief Research Officer of the Filene Research Institute George Hofheimer; and Dr. Robert Manning, a professor from the Rochester Institute of Technology who conducted the study.
The full report is now available on the MCUL Free Resources page in the Information Services area of the MCUL Web site, or by clicking here.
“The Banking Committee was receptive to the information Dr. Manning outlined from his study, and although there wasn’t enough time to engage in further dialogue during the presentation, a few Senators spoke with us individually afterward,” said MCUL President/CEO David Adams. “Most encouraging was that the Committee invited Dr. Manning and the Filene representatives back to discuss the study and policy recommendations further, which we expect to arrange in the near future.”
