MCUL, CUNA Stress CU Strength In Video Messages (Misc News: September 29, 2008)
With U.S. economic problems making headlines, this is a good time for credit unions to promote that they are safe, sound and growing. In a video message, the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) President and CEO David Adams says credit unions are busy serving their members and investing responsibly, while also on pace to add 100,000 new members this year.
The Credit Union National Association (CUNA) President and CEO Dan Mica also taped a video message. Mica talks about deposit insurance and how credit unions have never needed a bailout and don’t need one now.

The MCUL has contacted media and lawmakers statewide to spread the message of credit union strength and soundness in the midst of the economic crisis. The MCUL issued a press release and an op-ed from Adams, the latter of which the Detroit News promptly posted on their Web site (click here to view full text), to emphasize how credit unions have not contributed to the economic troubles and have remained well-capitalized. Adams also explained the role that trust plays in the stability of the country’s financial system.
