Two Michigan Congressmen Named ‘Must-Know’ for CUs

Camp

Sander Levin

Two members of Michigan’s congressional delegation made a list of the most influential lawmakers for credit union supporters, according to a story in Credit Union Times. The article looks at the makeup of the new Congress and the committee leaders who have the potential to influence legislation of importance to credit unions. Eight members of Congress are listed as “committee leaders every credit union executive should know,” and two of them are from Michigan.

Republican Dave Camp is the chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which is where all tax reform legislation must begin. MCUL & Affiliates CEO Dave Adams told the publication that Camp has a good relationship with credit unions, and while he is also “aggressively lobbied” by banks, he will not help them at the expense of credit unions.

Also on the list is Sander Levin, a Democrat who is the ranking member of that same committee. Adams again praised Levin for his credit union support, saying that his overall philosophy of service meshes well with the credit union message.
