The month of October is historically celebrated by credit unions as Co-op Month and in particular, Oct. 18, is recognized as International Credit Union Day. This year’s theme, “Members Matter Most,” celebrates the important economic and social contributions credit unions make to their communities worldwide. To help credit unions celebrate Co-op Month throughout the month of October, the league will conduct its annual online auction to raise money to support MCULAF, the MCUL state PAC. MCULAF dollars assist with credit unions’ relationship building and advocacy efforts in Lansing. For those who haven’t reached their 2012 state PAC goals, there is still time to sponsor an item. Sponsor forms must be received by email or fax by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
"Similar to the very successful Charity Match Silent Auction at the MCUL & Affiliates Annual Convention and Exposition, this event provides a great opportunity for participants to purchase some nice items as we enter the holiday season, help raise critically important state PAC funds and benefit a great charitable cause in Children’s Miracle Network." said Drew Egan, MCUL & Affiliates executive vice president and PAC executive director.
"We ask that credit unions plan to publicize the event to their employees, boards and members as part of their “Co-op Month” publicity," Egan added. "We're asking credit union employees to be as generous as they can. We all know the importance of a strong, well-funded PAC in today's political climate. The MCULAF Online Auction is a great opportunity to join in a fun and charitable event while contributing to the continued success of our political action efforts."

The auction will open for bidding at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, and bidding will close at noon on Friday, Oct. 19. To bid, a person must be a member of a MCUL-affiliated credit union, and the winning bidder's credit union will have their MCULAF contribution credited toward the 2012 MCULAF goals for their credit union and chapter.
