New MCUL Governmental Affairs Staff
Bring Experience to Advocacy Efforts

Left to right, Jami Wolfe, Marcia Hune and David Mroz.

The MCUL has three fresh faces in its governmental affairs department. Between them they bring a wealth of experience to MCUL’s advocacy work in Lansing and in Washington. The new staff members are Marcia Hune, director of legislative affairs; David Mroz, political affairs coordinator; and Jami Wolfe, political affairs support specialist. Each brings a unique set of skills and experiences to working for Michigan’s credit unions and members.

“We’re lucky to have some extremely talented new legislative affairs staff members,” says Patrick La Pine, MCUL executive vice president. “With their experience, knowledge and networks, credit unions will continue to have a strong political voice.”

Hune comes to MCUL with nine years of state legislative experience, having worked for two speakers of the house and the senate majority floor leader. Immediately prior, she was assistant director of legislative affairs for SEIU Healthcare, lobbying for nursing home workers and home health aids. With an expertise in policy, Hagenbarth has the knowledge necessary to lead efforts to support Michigan credit unions at the state and national level.

Working with her will be David Mroz, former Michigan political and field director for the Mitt Romney for President campaign. David is a skilled fundraiser and organizer, having managed campaigns in 1996 and 1998 and worked for the Michigan Republican Party as its west Michigan field organizer. Much of his work will be with the state and federal PACs, MCULAF and MCULLAF, respectively, raising funds.

Jami Wolfe, the third new member of the government affairs team, spent three years as an administrative assistant in the Michigan House of Representatives. She will be the first contact for members’ governmental affairs questions as well as assisting with PAC fundraising.

The new team has some large issues to tackle in the coming months, including PAC fundraising, examining legislation that could affect credit unions and fostering strong relationships with lawmakers now and beyond the November elections.

“We have a chance to do some great work on behalf of credit unions,” says Hune. “Each member of our team has unique experience, and we’re looking forward to continuing to combine our knowledge and efforts to make the credit union voice heard on the issues that are important to the industry.”

Hune, Mroz and Wolfe are based in the MCUL’s Lansing office, which will be relocating to a more prominent position in the downtown area, 101 South Washington Square, in December.
