Michigan credit unions have had a successful partnership with Exchange City since 2005. Exchange City is a remarkable miniature city that allows students to obtain hands-on business and financial experience while governing, managing and operating the city for a day. The mock city features a newspaper, radio/TV station, post office, city hall, an array of merchandisers and - thanks to the continued support of Michigan Credit Unions and the MCUL - its own Exchange City Credit Union!
By sponsoring the “Exchange City Credit Union”, we reach Michigan students, parents, and teachers with the important message that a credit union is a primary and trusted source of financial services.
Located in Taylor, Exchange City is the largest hands-on educational program in the world and has served over 1 million students nationwide since its inception in 1980. It is expected that some 45,000 fourth through eighth graders from school districts throughout the state of Michigan will participate over the next three years. With a Standards and Frameworks based curriculum, Exchange City “citizens” keep their very own city operating and thriving. The Exchange City Credit Union is the one and only financial institution in the city and because of our support the credit union message is placed throughout the Exchange City curriculum.

Help Sponsor the Exchange City Credit Union!
The impact of your pledge to sponsor the Exchange City Credit Union heightens community awareness of credit unions and provides an in depth financial education opportunity. Students hear from their trusted teachers that they need to open savings and checking accounts at the credit union and borrow from the credit union for their business loans. These students are future lifetime credit union members. This exposure also reaches the schools, and the parents and teachers of these students who see, hear and teach the credit union difference.
As partners, participating credit unions will be able to provide marketing messages to parents, teachers and students when schools in your membership area attend Exchange City; your employees will enjoy a 20 percent discount on summer camp and special programs for their children. Please support the Exchange City Credit Union now and include this support in your yearly budgets. To enhance your sponsorship up to half of your contribution may be designated for use by a named school district in the community you serve. For more information, contact MCUL Financial Education Coordinator, Beth Troost at Beth.Troost@mcul.org.
