Teamwork, common goals and shared information are key components of a credit union community ready to tackle today’s challenges and opportunities. That’s the concept behind “Fusion: Credit Unions Together,” the theme for the 2007 MCUL Annual Convention and Exposition (AC&E).

The 2007 AC&E is slated for Thursday through Saturday, May 17-19, at the Detroit Marriot Renaissance Center.  The gathering will feature another extensive education program, featuring timely and relevant sessions aimed at helping credit unions improve member service, become involved in the community and stay aware of current best practices.

Attendees can also look forward to a keynote address delivered by Emmy Award-winning journalist and talk show host Charlie Rose.

With the poor local economy affecting many of Michigan’s working families, several special guests will address the current challenges facing the state, what lies ahead and what role credit unions can play in helping move Michigan forward. Guests include State Rep. Andy Coulouris, D-Saginaw, chairman of the House Banking and Financial Services Committee, who will speak during Friday’s General Keynote Session; Michigan Speaker of the House Andy Dillon, D-Redford Twp., who will speak during Saturday’s Honors Luncheon; and potentially a visit from Governor Jennifer Granholm during Friday’s Economic Issues Luncheon.

The location of this year’s AC&E in the heart of Detroit provides for some unique opportunities and Motown flair, including the Thursday night Welcome Reception in the GM World showroom and the Ford Rouge Assembly Plant Tour on Friday afternoon.

Friday night’s Grand Banquet, “Back to Detroit,” promises to transport attendees back to the days when Motown Records was in its prime, complete with a performance from The Contours, who offer a full Motown revue of their own hits as well as other favorites originally done by The Temptations and others.

AC&E headliners from the credit union movement will include CUNA President/CEO Dan Mica, CUNA Mutual Group President/CEO Jeff Post, and NCUA Vice Chairman Rodney Hood.

Following up on last year’s successful debut, four “Lunch and Learn” sessions will again be featured during the 2007 AC&E.  Each ticketed session takes place at 12 noon on Thursday and includes a boxed lunch.  The sessions are “Exploring Board Governance,” “Co-opetition,” “A Case of Fictitious Loans That Everyone Missed!” and “Reaching the Teenage Market.”

Many other breakout sessions for CEOs and managers, board members, marketing professionals and others highlight the educational agenda.  A complete educational program guide is available on the MCUL Web site at
