Advocacy is an important element of MCUL’s efforts to control new compliance requirements at their inception. It includes efforts by MCUL legislative and regulatory staff, in conjunction with CUNA, to lobby lawmakers and send commentary to regulators in an effort to prevent, slow down, or amend compliance requirements found in proposed statutes or regulations. The effort to influence also includes Comment Calls and Letters to regulators containing feedback from CU officials and staff. Finally it means working with regulatory agencies to ensure the laws and regulations are properly interpreted and applied during the examination process.
