2009 MCUL GAC: Vital Legislative and Regulatory Information
In order for the credit union community to achieve its goals in 2009, it must keep up-to-speed on new lawmakers and their priorities, as well as what can be expected for the financial services industry during this challenging economic time. The 2009 MCUL Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) will provide attendees with the information they need to remain knowledgeable on legislative and regulatory issues relating to credit unions and take part in effective grassroots lobbying.
The conference will be held just a few blocks from the Michigan Capitol Building in Lansing at the Radisson Hotel, April 29-30. The new MCUL headquarters is located in-between the two locations in Washington Square.
Regarding federal issues, the 2009 MCUL GAC agenda includes “An Analysis of the Obama Administration and 111th Congress” from John Mercurio, executive editor of The Hotline, a daily, online source on American politics in Washington. Also included is “The Economy and What It Means for Credit Unions” from Bill Hampel, CUNA chief economist.
Regarding state issues, Bill Ballenger, editor and publisher of Inside Michigan Politics, will present “The 95th Michigan Legislature…What Can We Expect?” The legislative leadership agenda for 2009 will be presented in a discussion moderated by Senior Capitol Correspondent Tim Skubick, with input from leaders of the State House and Senate.
A great deal of valuable regulatory information will also be presented. OFIR Commissioner Ken Ross and NCUA Region 1 Director Mark Treichel will be present for a Regulatory Roundtable.
The educational investment to attend is $149 per person for staff of credit unions with assets over $35 million, and $99 per person for staff of credit unions with assets of $35 million or less. Hotel rooms are being held for attendees at the Radisson Hotel Lansing. Participants are encouraged to reserve rooms on or before April 7. After this date, reservations will be accepted on a space and rate available basis. Visit the MCUL education homepage to register.
